Doing the Catwalk

As much as we love our sky-high heels, we'll always maintain a soft spot for the ladylike kitten heel, which was set in stone as a fashion must-have during the period of Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn. The cat has made its comeback and has been spotted at New York- and London Fashion Week as well as Milan Fashion Week which started today.

There has always been a stigma that the higher the heel, the more fashionable, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Valentino was on the fore front of the trend with his gladiator, studded version, which hit the Runways in his 2012 spring collection. Since then they have been accessible from every department store to major high-end brands such as Christian Louboutins, with every possible trend incorporated to them such as studs, prints, chunky heels and even the latest pastels and neon’s.

Print Pants

Print has quickly become one of the the biggest trends to hit your wardrobe in the summer months to come and I know some of us are to scared to attract the much needed attention we deserve.
Head on out to your local department store and stock on print items in all shapes and sizes. The hottest print item making waves in the southern hemisphere with summer coming to and end is the printed pant, to make sure you don't look like an entire fool rocking your outlandish take on the classical denim, pair it with a neutral colour shoe and a single colour blouse. For those with a sense of the avantgarde, why not print block your way through the summer with florals, paisleys, Afro-centric and many more version in the line up so choose from. Combine them to create a look that will leave a lasting impression such as Prada, Thakoon and Rodarte's S/S2012 collections.

The choice is yours, let your imagination run wild and marry your prints with great consideration or take a bit more of a impulsive decision, lay out all your print items on you floor, cover your eyes, spin around multiple times and choose your outfit [eyes covered]. Either way your print is bound to make a statement.

Maxi Skirt
With celebs, plebs and a large amount of Trail-Blazers on our sidewalks sporting this trendy item, all with their own rendition of it inspired me

From jersey knits and draping chiffon's, full length skirts to mullet cuts, high-waisted, empire or hipster fits, your choices and endless when it comes to standing out in a crowd. I'll give you the inside scoop on what’s hot and what’s not. The newest trend within the maxi skirt range is that of the Mullet Maxi which I have copied and made various styles of for my friend this year as birthday gifts or was it a reminder of how badly they dress, no one knows.

When wondering when you should wear which skirt, don’t freak out but stick to the basics. Get those sheer skirts out for a more glamorous evening and pair it with a cropped corset and a blazer to get that always desired timeless, classy look. Pull out your jersey knits and pair it with a plain-T for the everyday casual attire. Pair a tight fitted maxi with a over sized chiffon blouse and that flowy “Chanel” high-wasted mullet skirt with either your old faithful leather jacket or ripped denim blouse to get that sought after biker-chic.

Fur Fatale

With the winter reaching its peak it is definitely time to stock-up, or pull out granny's old fur coat from the back of her wardrobe. With fur being such huge hit at the latest Fall Fashion Weeks around the globe especially China and we all know about 80% of your cloting you have on now comes from there. So I encourage you to go eco and rather get your hands on a faux fur item, whether it be a circle scarf, waistcoat, leg-warmers a handbag or a traditional Russian trooper.
Keep your hands clean, keep them green!!

What KNOT 2 Wear

Making a drastic statement on the runways lately are knots in all shapes and sizes. Knots are one of the runway trends that have the easiest transition from the catwalks to sidewalks. You can look forward to some Knotted DIY's this week!!!
Having a hand at the knotted craze is our home grown SA designer Kelly Esterhuyse with her fashion week debut collection, her models where kitted out in mohair knits completed with loads of "sailors knots" worked into the designs [top left corner]
