Pleat of the Week

Can Julien Macdonald do some great statement cocktail pieces or what!!! When I first laid eyes on his brand spanking new S/S 2013 collection, my jaw dropped until me knees in awe, of the Sharon Stone inspired collection.
While the runway was crowded with dip-dyed ombré silk, this subtle little cocktail ensemble made its way unnoticed across the plank. With an eye for detail like mine, I couldn’t miss it, with the soft feminine pleating detail going on under the slashed “rocker” skirt with plunging neckline, the bedazzled waistline adds that touch of glam that Sharon Stone has always been lacking in my eyes.
Congratulations to Macdonald on a perfectly tailored collection that was launched just a few minutes ago in London. At the moment by far one of my favourite assortments for the S/S 2013 season.

I am in total awe, Australian designer, Dion Lee created the futuristic blue drape for his S/S 2010 collection, I know this a while back but all this structured draping creates a sense of time less cocktail wear. The flirty, feminine and futuristic style dress has bowled me over. The multiple layers of pleats on the skirt add so much depth and colloquial structure to the final piece.
My imagination says that Charlize Theron, would rock this frock in her latest Sci-Fi blockbuster "Prometheus" while still being the cut-throat bitch in the driving seat.

This gown would obviously been worn at night but I am just so fascinated at the fact that not for one second does it look out of place being shot in midday as street-style. The styling of the garment being very simple; messy Kate Moss hair and the plated metal cuffs, puts all the focus of this snapshot on this pleated masterpiece. With the entire gown being covered in knife pleats and larger than life sleeves, the chance of the model getting lost in the frock are extremely high. The use of the open-end sleeve rather than the traditional sleeve as well as the plunging V-neckline make the model appear more present than one would imagine.
